            The Osmond boys cross country team earned their first championship plaque in school history... Seven years. They had been runner-up four times before. The Tigers won the Niobrara-Verdigre Invitational scoring a low 19 points as five runners placed in the top 10 spots.  Runner-up Neligh-Oakdale scored 33.

          Johnson Chishiba was runner-up (18:38), Jared Bessmer third (19:00), Grayson Schultze edged at the line placed fifth (19:09), Aaron Chishiba ninth (19:57), and Ryan Schmit was tenth (20:03).  Zach Alderson finished in seventh place at 21:01, but suffered a hip injury coming into the finish. 

          Kaden Polt won the JV division at 21:22, and Alexander Heiman was the fifth place medal winner in 22:57.  Connor vonRentzell was just five places behind Alexander in a time of 26:18. 

          “I was very proud of our team; they really ran well for the first race of the year.  I know they really wanted to get this done, win a Championship” Coach Ortmeier said.

          All three varsity girls medaled in this season opening race.  Hayle Krienert was top runner and finished in fourteenth place (27:20), Lexi Beacom was sixteenth (28:29), and Jozie Kumm finished in nineteenth place (32:44).

          In the junior high boy’s division Robert Aschoff claimed the sixth place medal in 5:52.  Top girl finisher was Erica Heiman in fifth place (6:10), followed by Caydence Krienert in seventh place (6:38) and Juliana Kumm placing thirteenth (7:35).

          “I thought all the Tiger runners ran well, especially since this was the first time some had rum the 5K distance, and other’s had never run at the State Park before.  It’s a tough course” Ortmeier noted. “Now we can continue to work and get better.”
