The Osmond cross country teams opened their season at Hartington on Thursday August 26th. The boy’s finished in third place in the team race five points behind runner-up Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Champion Battle Creek in the eleven team field. The Tiger junior varsity team finished in eighth place.
The cloudy warm day saw the Tigers off to a good start as Gavin Geneski held third place through the first mile and a half before stepping in a hole ending his day. A group of Tigers maintained positions in the late 20 and 40’s. Heading to the finish gate Karter Johnson passed three runners to finish in 11th place at 20:25.58. Close behind was Caleb Miller in his first 5K race. He finished in 14th place in a time of 20:28.30 with Robert on his heels in 15th place in 20:36.14. Dominic True, also in his first 5K race finished 23rd in 21:42.70 followed by Kaden Polt in 29th place in a time of 22:44.07. Hartington’s Carson Noecker won the race at 16:34.94.
Bodie True led the next pack finishing in 37th place in a time of 23:30.21, Hunter Beacom in 39th place and Hudson Schultze in 40th place. Hunter’s time was 23:34.18 and Hudson covered the distance in 23:34.46. James Doyle was 45th and Matthew Alderson 46th in times of 23:52.27 and 23:59.54 respectively.
The Tiger girl’s came in 9th and 21st, as Keli Aschoff finished her first 5K race in ninth place in a time of 25:54.36. Riley Wagner covered the distance in 30:17.50 for her twenty-first place finish. Kairece Morris of Pender won the race in 23:23.53.
In the junior high girl’s division Rachel Harder finished 6th for the Tigers in a time 9:03.89 for the 2000 meter distance. Teammate Charley Aschoff was right behind Rachel for seventh place in 9:06.34. For the boy’s Donivan Heiman finished in 17th place with a time of 9:01.52. Teammate Kooper Gubbels placed 24th in 9:41.60.
“I thought we ran well in the warm and humid conditions” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier. “We have a ways to go with our conditioning, but the kids showed a lot of courage and competed hard.”
