Jared Bessmer running a little under the weather took 6th place in a good time of 17:44 followed by Johnson Chishiba in 7th at 18:03 also a good time. Aaron Chishiba covered the course in 18:51 for 9th place followed by Keaton Timmerman in 18th place in 19:26, nearly two minutes faster than he had run his previous 5K races. Also Keaton’s last 200 meters of the race was a sprint to the finish gate with three other runners.
Ethan Pfanstiel also had a sprint to the gate edging out a runner from Elkhorn Valley. This was significant because in the final results Osmond and Elkhorn Valley were tied at 39 points for second place. The tie breaker is the best fifth runners finish. With Ethan out kicking the Falcon’s fifth runner Osmond took the runner-up plaque. His time was 20:14. Alexander Heiman was 36th in 22:22, Alex Kumm 37th in 23:06, and Connor vonRentzell was 42nd in a time of 24:33.
“The team really went after it, they really wanted that plaque,” noted Coach Ortmeier. “We had many runners step it up and work even though they were hurting.”
Team totals: 1st - Boyd County (27), 2nd - Osmond (39 – w/tiebreaker), 3rd - Elkhorn Valley (39), 4th - Neligh-Oakdale (40), 5th - Niobrara-Verdigre (79)
Earlier in the girl’s division, Hayle Krienert and Lexi Beacom finished 14th and 15th in times of 25:28 and 25:45 respectively. Jozie Kumm earned herself a medal placing 19th in her best time of 27:19.
In the Jr. High boys division the runners covered a course of 2,250 meters. Kaden Polt finished in 7th place in a time of 9:31, and Robert Aschoff was right behind in 8th place in 9:33.
