Thursday August 25 the Osmond Cross Country teams traveled to the Hartington Sports Complex to open the season. The boy’s race ended up being very close. The host team Hartington-Newcastle won the race with 47 points, Battle Creek was second at 48 points, and Osmond was third with 49 points.
Top finishers for the Tigers were Robert Aschoff seventh in 20:03.80 followed very closely by Dominic True in eighth place in 20:04.70. Karter Johnson also earned a medal in fifteenth place in 21:06.20. Other Osmond finishers were Caleb Miller in 23rd place (21:37.70), Gavin Geneski in 26th place (21:43.10), Noah Geneski in 39th place (22:59.00), Hudson Schultze in 40th place (23:00.50), and freshman Jack Berg in 52nd place (25:00.60). Seventy runners competed in the race.
In the girls race Osmond’s Keli Aschoff earned a medal placing thirteenth in a time of 26:08.50. Keli nearly ran past Battle Creeks Maggie Bishop who was clocked at 26:00.10.
In the girl’s junior high 2K race Rachel Harder finished in seventh place in a time of 9:13.50. Charley Aschoff came in ninth place to also win a medal. Her time was 9:28.90. Deanna Kumm finished in 19th place in a time of 10:31.90.
On the junior high boy’s side Mason True finished in 17th place in a time of 8:49.70 and Donovan Heiman finished 21st in a time of 9:05.80.
“I thought we ran well, better than I had anticipated we would” noted Coach Ortmeier. “We had competitive races in all divisions and the boy’s were so close that it should push us to improve.”
