The 2022 running of the State Cross Country meet was Friday October 21st on the Kearney Golf Course. The weather was warm with a slight breeze, perfect for the big race. The class D and C boy’s led off the day with the class D girls next at 1:00. Keli Aschoff stepped to the start line in box 6, lined up with 124 other runners from across the state of Nebraska. After the start Keli moved her way up in the pack to 70th place at the first mile in a time of 6:56. She maintained her position and cross the two mile mark in 70th place in 14:42, her time slowed a bit.
Through the third mile Keli passed three runners and hit the final straightaway. During the last 100 meters Keli passed Robb of Doniphan-Trumbull and Magnuson of Oakland-Craig to cross the finish line in 65th place in a time of 23:07.1. Jordan Arens of Crofton won the race in a time of 19:29.8 and Katherine Kerrigan of Ainsworth was second in 20:12.2.
Hemingford won the team Championship with a score of 38. Ainsworth was second with 40 and Crofton was third with 41 points.
“Keli ran a good race and she competed well in the largest group she has ever started in,” Coach Ortmeier praised. “Her time was good for this difficult course and this being her first time on it.”
