Scoring six runners in the top ten is a pretty good start to winning a cross country meet. That is what the Tigers did at Neligh-Oakdale on Monday September 16th. Due to flooding at the Antelope Country Club the meet was moved to the fair grounds.
In the early stages of the meet the Tigers were clumped with Bennet of Elkhorn Valley and Thiele of Summerland. By the last 800 meters the field had spread out and Tiger senior Mason Bykerk had the lead to the finish gate. His time was 16:42. Hunter Bennet of E-V was second and Osmond’s Johnson Chishiba and Graysen Schultze flew in at 3rd and 4th place in 16:49 and 16:58 respectively.
Tigers Ryan Schmit and Octavio Palacios came in 6th and 7th behind Eli Theile of Summerland. Their times were 18:04 and 18:19. Aaron Chishiba followed in 9th place in 18:39.
Robert Aschoff was the next Tiger to cross the line in 19th place in a time of 19:16. A trio of Osmond runners came through in 22nd, 23rd, and 24th place. Kaden Polt led the group (19:34), Zach Alderson next (19:36), and Justus Maertins followed (19:37). Bodie True was 35th (20:43), Keaton Timmerman 39th (21:04), Hunter Beacom 43rd (21:28) and Connor vonRentzell 52nd (25:10).
For the fifth place girls Riley Wagner medaled coming in 13th in a time of 23:52 and Lexi Beacom also earned a medal at 17th place in a time of 24:25. Hayle Krienert was 23rd in a time of 26:34, and Jozie Kumm was 29th. Jozie’s time was 27:56.
In the junior high division Andrew Bucklew earned a 7th place medal covering the course in 11:10. On the girl’s side Keli Aschoff collected a 5th place medal in a time of 10:49. Also medaling were Erica Heiman and Caydence Krienert. Erica finished in 9th place in 11:29 and Caydence 10th in 11:35. Juliana Kumm took 15th place in 12:25 and Brianna Kumm 16th in a time of 12:26.
“I thought everyone ran very well considering we just had a big meet last Friday in Norfolk” complimented Coach Joe Ortmeier. “The season is half over and we still have some big goals in front of us.”
