It was a hot day at the Niobrara State Park on Thursday September 1st for the Niobrara-Verdigre XC Invitational. The Osmond’s boy’s team finished in second place behind Bloomfield-Wausa. Dominic True was the top runner for the Tigers. Dominic had a great final kick trying to run down Bloomfield-Wausa’s Cade Wakely, but came up just short. His time was 17:50.
Robert Aschoff finished in seventh place in 18:49, and Caleb Miller was close behind in 8th place in 18:55. Karter Johnson was 12th in 19:20 and Gavin Geneski 14th in a time of 19:41.
There was a junior varsity division that the Osmond boy’s won as Matthew Alderson cruised to first place in 19:55. Teammate Noah Geneski was second in 20:45 and Hudson Schultze third in a time of 21:16. Jack Berg was one spot away from a medal as he placed 6th in 23:01.
In the girl’s division Keli Aschoff ran a solid race finishing in 6th place in a time of 23:57.
The junior high Tigers also ran very well. In the girl’s race Rachel Harder finished in second place in a time of 6:22. Charley Aschoff was fourth in 6:36 and Deanna Kumm earned a 7th place medal in a time of 7:53. Mason True had a strong finish and placed second for the boy’s team. His time was 5:43. Teammate Donovan Heiman also sprinted to the finish line for 6th place in a time of 5:58.
“I thought our kids really handled the heat and the hills well” praised Coach Joe Ortmeier. “We will keep working to get better and prepare for the Norfolk Catholic meet next Friday.”
