The Battle Creek Invitational was contested on April 4th on a cold, windy and at times damp day. Senior Cali Gutz didn’t seem to mind the weather as she pushed through the chilly wind and won both the 800 meters and the 1600 meters.
Cali won the 800 meters 10 seconds ahead of Battle Creek’s Adley Seifert in a time of 2:35.61, her best of this early season. She won the 1600 meters easily over a pair of O’Neill runners in a time of 6:07.11. This was her first 1600 meter race of this season.
Keli Aschoff was the additional medal winner for the girls. She took third place in the 3200 meters. Keli covered the eight windy laps in 14:32.63.
On the boy’s side of the meet Osmond’s 3200 relay was the top event. The team of Gavin Geneski, Robert Aschoff, Hudson Schultze and Karter Johnson took third place in a time of 9:20.15. Karter, the anchorman closed the gap on Plainview and out leaned their final runner. The Pirates’ time was 9:20.16.
Shortly after the relay, Hudson Schultze ran a strong 400 meter’s where he nearly caught a Battle Creek runner for third place. He finished in fourth place in his fastest time ever of 54.76.
Trevin Larson made the finals in the 200 meters with the 8th best time. In the finals he ran a solid race and finished sixth in a time of 24.69. In the next race Jaxon Vinson competed in the 800 meters. He ran a smart race finishing in sixth place in a time of 2:22.12.
