Creighton Invitational: Boys Champions, Girls Fourth

            Tuesday April 23rd the Osmond track & field teams traveled to Creighton for their Invite.  The Osmond boys used depth on the track and in the field to secure the top spot at the meet.  The girls came out of the field events well and were steady on the track. Both teams’ relays ran very well.

          In the field events Alexis Solorzano won the discus with his best toss of the season of 128-2.  Landon Stelling was fifth at 97-1.  In the shot Alexis finished second with a throw of 37-6 and Zach Huwaldt was sixth at 34-9.  Graysen Schultze finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 38-6.5.  Aaron Chishiba and Nick Reikofski placed fifth and sixth in the long jump.  Their marks were 18-1.75 and 18-0 respectively.  Ryan Schmit tied for sixth place in the high jump at 5-4. 

          On the track Justus Maertins finished third in the 110 high hurdles in a time of 17.9.  He was also a very close second in the 300 hurdles in 42.7.  Kaden Polt placed sixth in the 300 hurdles in 49.0. Tigers did not place in the 100 meters, but in the 200 meters Zach Huwaldt was third in 24.8, and Aaron Chishiba was fourth in 24.9.

          Anthony Heiman won the 400 meters in 54.7 and Connor Gutz was third in his best time of 56.2.  Johnson Chishiba won the 800 meters in 2:11.5 and Ryan Schmit was fifth at 2:22.5.  The Tigers took all three top spots in the 1600 meters.  Graysen Schultze won the event in 5:04.3, Jared Bessmer was second in 5:05.6, and Joshua Gansebom was third in 5:12.5. The 3200 meters was also a good event for Osmond as Mason Bykerk won in a time of 11:20.8 and Jared Bessmer was runner-up at 11:30.8.

          The 400-relay team finished in third place in a time of 46.9: team members were Aaron Chishiba, Nick Reikofski, Bodie True, and Zach Huwaldt.  The 1600-relay team finished second to Bon Homme SD.  Justus Maertins, Johnson Chishiba, Connor Gutz, and Anthony Heiman ran a time of 3:48.2.  The 3200-relay team won the race in 9:39.7.  Team members were Johnson Chishiba, Mason Bykerk, Joshua Gansebom, and Anthony Heiman.

          For the girl’s Mary Kahny started with a fourth place finish in the discus.  Her distance was 91-3.  She took third place in the shot put with an effort of 30-5.5. Makenzie Johnson placed third in the high jump with a mark of 4-8. Kennedy Johnson also finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 30-11.25. 

          On the track Makenzie Johnson placed fourth in the 100 hurdles in a time of 18.9.  Grace Gansebom finished sixth in the 100 meters in 14.2 and fourth in the 200 meters in 29.30. Kennedy Johnson was runner-up in the 400 meters in a time of 67.0 and Riley Wagner was sixth at 73.9. Two Tigers also placed in the 600 meters.  Madeline Huwaldt earned a third place medal in a time of 2:55.4 and Bailey Schmit took fifth place in 3:04.7.

          The 400-relay team placed fourth in a time of 59.1.  Team members were Kennedy Johnson, Makenzie Johnson, Grace Gansebom, and Riley Wagner.  The 1600-relay team won the event in their best time of the season of 4:36.8.  Riley Wagner led off the race handing off to Makenzie Johnson.  Grace Gansebom ran third handing off to anchor Kennedy Johnson.  The 3200-relay team finished in third place as Madeline Huwaldt, Kiera Moes, Bailey Schmit, and Lexi Beacom covered the distance in 12:38.1.

          “This was the first time we competed at the Creighton Invitational, and the best weather we have had all season” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier.  “Our kids really had a good day.”
