The Lewis & Clark Conference track meet had been postponed from Saturday to Monday April 29th due to poor weather conditions Saturday.  The meet was held at Plainview.  The boys finished in third place by a single point and the girls were 12th.

Top performances for the Tigers came in the distance events.  Mason Bykerk and Jared Bessmer moved to the front of the pack after the first few laps and easily outdistanced the field.  Masons time was 11:10.91 and Jared’s runner-up time was 11:16.22. Later in the 1600 meters Graysen Schultze did not have as easy of a time winning the event as the Tigers did earlier.  Graysen was 60 meters behind the leader Grant Lander of Homer on the last turn when he started his kick.  Both runners came flying down the home stretch with Graysen out-leaning the Knight for the win.   Graysen was timed at 5:06.18 and Lander at 5:06.31.  Jared Bessmer was sixth and Joshua Gansebom seventh in times of 5:16.99 and 5:24.58 respectively.

Alexis Solorzano was runner-up in the shot put.  His best effort was 41-7.  Zach Huwaldt made the finals, but did not place. The 3200-relay team also came in second.  Johnson Chishiba, Mason Bykerk, Joshua Gansebom, and Anthony Heiman covered the distance in 9:14.83.  Anthony also finished third in the 400 meters in a time of 55.19.  Keaton Wattier was third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.80.  Justus Maertins finished in eighth place in a time of 18.21.

Justus also finished in fourth place in the 300 hurdles in a time of 44.50. The1600-relay team placed fourth in a time of 3:51.91.  Team members were Justus Maertins, Johnson Chishiba, Connor Gutz, and Anthony Heiman.  Johnson Chishiba collected fifth place in the 800 meters in 2:13.17.

In the triple jump Graysen Schultze and Justus Maertins placed fifth and sixth.  Graysen’s distance was 38-5.25 and Justus 38-2.  Aaron Chishiba finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 18-10.5. The 400-relay team of Aaron Chishiba, Nick Reikofski, Bodie True, and Zach Huwaldt finished in seventh place with a time of 48.66.

For the girls a pair of fourth place finishes in the field events was their top performance.  Kennedy Johnson finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 30-7.25.   Makenzie Johnson tied for fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 4-6.

All three relay teams placed with the 400-relay team in sixth place.  Team members were Kennedy Johnson, Makenzie Johnson, Grace Gansebom, and Riley Wagner and their time was 57.17.  The 1600-relay team came in seventh in a time of 4:42.34.  Team members were Riley Wagner, Makenzie Johnson, Grace Gansebom, and Kennedy Johnson.  In the 3200-relay the Tigers also finished in seventh place as Madeline Huwaldt, Kiera Moes, Bailey Schmit, and Lexi Beacom covered the distance in 12:42.00.

Riley Wagner made the finals of the long jump and Mary Kahny the finals of the discus, but neither Tiger placed.

“The kids hung in there in the cool, raw weather” noted Coach Ortmeier. “This is a tough 16 team meet with quality competition, I’m proud of their effort. Also congratulations to our conference champions.”
