Osmond traveled to Neligh on Tuesday April 12th for the Neligh-Oakdale Invitational.  The weather was a key player in the meet.  At the start the temperature was in the upper 50’s with a stiff breeze.  Two hours later the sun came out and the temp’s rose into the upper 80’s and light breeze.  By around 4:30 the wind switched directions and picked up considerably with heavy cloud cover and got worse from there.  Through it all the Tigers competed hard and even bettered some of their times.

The girl’s 3200-relay team collected gold with a time of 11:35.5, 14 seconds ahead of second place.  Team members were Cali Gutz, Grace Gansebom, Caydence Krienert, and Keli Aschoff.  The boy’s 3200-relay team bettered their season’s best time, but could not beat Plainview.  The Pirates ran 9:02.1 and the Tigers time was 9:05.3.  Team members were Gavin Geneski, Hudson Schultze, Karter Johnson, and Ryan Schmit.  The boy’s did win the 1600-relay, during the worst of the weather.  Team members were Bodie True, Ryan Schmit, Gavin Geneski, and Alex Vinson and their time was 3:45.8.

Bodie True, the lead leg of the 1600-relay also finished second in the 400 meters and third in the 200 meters.  Both times were his fastest ever. His 400 time was 52.8 and his 200 time was 24.0.

Senior Grace Gansebom had a very good day along with her top finish in the 3200-relay.  She was second in the long jump with a leap of 15-1 and was runner-up in the 200 meters in 28.4.  Grace also was the lead-off leg of the girl’s 1600-relay which placed fourth.  Along with Grace were Sophie Gansebom, Keli Aschoff, and Cali Gutz and their time was 4:49.7.

Junior Cali Gutz battled the weather and had a very good day.  Along with her relay medals she was runner-up in the 800 and 1600 meters.  Her 800 meter time was 2:38.4 and the 1600 meter was 6:19.1.  Sophie Gansebom finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in 56.4 and fifth in the high jump with a leap of 4-4. Kiera Moes placed fourth in the 100 hurdles in 18.6 seconds and made the triple jump finals, but did not place. Keli Aschoff fought the wind and finished in sixth place in the 3200 meters in 15:23.7. Macy Aschoff made the finals of the discus, but did not place.

The boy’s 400-relay team finished in fourth place in a time of 48.6 and team members were Bodie True, Alex Vinson, James Doyle, and Hunter Buchanan.  James also finished sixth in the 400 meters in a time of 57.2. Ryan Schmit placed fifth in the 800 meters in 2:17.4.  Dominic True was fifth in the 3200 meters in 11:55.5.   Jaxon Vinson finished fifth in the 110 high hurdles in 19.9. Owen Severson finished sixth in the 300 hurdles in 49.7 and was sixth in the high jump with a mark of 5-4.  Xander Brown placed sixth in the discus with a toss of 106-7.5.

“We had some pretty good performances considering the changing weather and strong winds.  Wind has been a factor all spring and the kids are dealing well with it,” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier. “Grace, Cali, and Bodie really competed well on a tough day!”
