The Osmond Tiger track & field team competed at the Wayne State Indoor Class I meet held Saturday March 18. Teams competing with the Tigers were Boone Central, Columbus Scotus, Stanton, Tekamah-Herman, and Wayne.
Senior Cali Gutz opened her season with a strong race winning the 800 meters by seven seconds over the field. Her time was 2:36.0. Cali just missed the indoor record of 2:35.27 set in 2012 by Carissa Gutz.
The next best finish came from the boy’s 4X160-relay team with a second place finish. The team of Alex Vinson, Trevin Larson, James Doyle, and Hunter Buchanan ran a time of 1:21.8. Down the final strait Hunter held of a charge by Wayne’s Sedjro Aguomba and held on. Wayne’s time was 1:21.9.
The boy’s 3200-relay team placed third in a time of 9:35.40, a pretty good time considering the race took 20 laps to complete. Team members were Gavin Geneski, Dominic True, Hudson Schultze, and Karter Johnson. Karter had a strong finish especially after being tripped on the final lap.
Junior Erica Heiman took fourth place in the 60 meter hurdles. Her time was 11:03. The boy’s 1600-relay team also finished fourth. Trevin Larson, James Doyle, Gavin Geneski, and Alex Vinson were timed at 4:00.3.
Junior Hunter Buchanan placed fifth in the long jump. His best effort was 18-7.75 which is his best mark ever. The girl’s 1600-relay team finished fifth in a time of 4:51.1. Team members were Erica Heiman, Carriana Kumm, Sophie Gansebom, and Cali Gutz.
Karter Johnson had a good run in the 1600 meters finishing in sixth place. His time was 5:29.2. The girl’s 4X160-relay placed sixth in a time of 1:43.2. Team members were Sophie Gansebom, Erica Heiman, Brianna Kumm, and Anabelle Vinson. Trevin Larson made the finals of the 60 meter dash but did not place.
“I thought we competed well considering our limited training,” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier. “Cali ran tough as did our relay teams. We all need conditioning!”
