December--Match of the Month 2019
This month's TeamMates “Match of the Month” spotlights Leah Knievel. She has been matched in Osmond for a little over a year now. Leah was previously matched with mentees in other communities.
Leah says that it works best for her match and herself to meet over the mentee’s lunch period. During that time period, the match usually spends time playing some of the TeamMates games that are in the TeamMates Room. Activities that the match works on can be the idea of the mentee or the mentor.
This particular match has tried to do origami, made jewelry and they have even ventured into trying to make lip gloss. Leah’s mentee enjoys doing crafts and artwork, so they might even try some painting next. Leah thinks that the mentee will be “mentoring” her on that project!
Leah wants everyone to know that TeamMates isn’t as much about the games or projects that the matches work on, as it is about the visiting, listening, encouraging, and often laughing.
Leah says her mentee is always positive, ready to try different activities and seems to enjoy the time they spend together. This match not only spends time together during their weekly visits; but they also attend the “group” activities that TeamMates offers. Even though the match only meets once a week, Leah believes that “it is worth it”.
Community members interested in helping with the Teammates program can do so by mentoring, serving on the board of directors or donating to the scholarship fund. Please contact Program Coordinator Beth Manzer (748-3963) or go to www.teammates.org if interested.
