November Match of the Month--2019
By being a mentor in the Osmond TeamMates program, Jenny von Rentzell can tell you about the value of being a positive role model in a young person’s life. She was successfully matched with a mentee a few years ago. When the mentee moved to another town; Jenny continued to support the TeamMates program and expressed her desire to be “matched” with another mentee as she enjoys being a part of a mentee’s life.
Last year, Jenny was matched with another mentee in the 4th grade, currently a 5th grader. They meet for 30 minutes, once a week. They have found that trying to meet at the same time each week is the best plan for them.
Jenny and her new match decided that they would try a different game from the TeamMates room each time that they meet. Sometimes there are holiday activities left for them to work on, so they do that instead. During their time together, they talk about how school is going for the match, and the types of things that she enjoys doing with her family. Jenny enjoys spending time each week with her mentor. The time goes by quickly when they meet because they have such a good time together. As a mentor, Jenny has enjoyed learning about her mentee’s interests and seeing how creative and artistic she is. Her mentee enjoys crafts, drawing, and sewing for 4-H projects.
She encourages everyone to be a mentor and become involved with the youth of our community. Jenny is currently serving a three-year term as a member of the Osmond TeamMates Board.
Community members interested in helping with the Teammates program can do so by mentoring, serving on the board of directors or donating to the scholarship fund. Please go to www.teammates.org if interested.
