MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION #42R
REGULAR MEETING
4/14/2025
The Osmond Board of Education met at 8:03 pm, Monday, April 14, 2025, in the multi-purpose room at Osmond Community Schools, located at 202 W. Prairie St., Osmond, NE.
It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Krohn, that it is hereby determined that this meeting was preceded by publicized notice in the April 9, 2025 issue of the Osmond Republican, according to policy 2008 and is hereby declared to be duly convened in open session. All members having voted in favor of the motion, the same was declared, passed and adopted and the following proceedings were had and done at said meeting in open session. A copy of the open meetings act was posted in the room.

Board roll call was taken, with all members being present.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Celebration of Excellence: The Board and Administration congratulated and thanked Mr. Larry McKenna for his 33 years of service to Osmond Community Schools. Mr. McKenna expressed his thanks to the board and shared some of his past experiences at OCS teaching science and math, coaching wrestling, golf and junior high track. Additionally, he shared memories of his time at school, from keeping the volleyball scoreboard, concession stand work and being an O Club sponsor. He said he will miss the school and what a great career its been, thanking the board for the opportunity.
Patron Input: President Moes recognized Mr. McKenna, Mr. Krause and Paige Kumm as guests in attendance. Also recognized was Regina Lorenz with the Osmond Republican as the news reporter in attendance.
Paige Kumm discussed the use of the football concession stand area in the north building for Little Tigers Daycare before and after care and kindergarten readiness.
It was moved by Rice, seconded by Koehler, to approve the consent agenda, reviewed board policies 5002,5003, 5006, 5007, 5009, 5010, 5011 and 5014, financial reports and April claims as presented.

Athletic Director Guenther reported on: 1) the proposed high school girls’ basketball schedule for the 25/26 season.
Principal Polt reported on: 1) prom; 2) senior honor roll breakfast; 3) kindergarten round-up; 4) class registration for 6-11 grade students beginning April 14; 5) pre-ACT, ACT and NSCAS testing; 6) 8th grade career day at NECC; 7) Easter break beginning with a 2:06 dismissal on April 17th, with school resuming on April 22nd; 8) district music contest scheduled for April 25th at Laurel; 9) 24/25 awards convocation scheduled for April 28th, with academic awards at 2:00 pm, junior high awards at 3:00 pm and the 9-12 activity awards scheduled for May 6th at 7:00 pm; 10) high school conference track meet in May 3rd in Winnebago, with junior high conference track in Creighton on April 26th; 11) conference golf meet being held in Homer on May 5th; 12) K-6 spring concert scheduled for April 29th at 7:00 pm, with the 7-12 spring concert on May 2nd at 6:00 pm; 13) senior students last day of school being May 7th, with the class being required to return on May 9th for graduation practice; 14) the graduation ceremony scheduled for May 10 at 2:00 pm; 15) the quote on possible new bleacher motors; 16) noted that the jazz band received 2nd place at NECC, out of 16 bands competing; 17) noted that the speech team finished 4th place in Class D1 at state speech; 18) three band members received medals for first chair at the Class D state band contest; 19) FFA brought home numerous awards from the State FFA contest in Lincoln; 20) congratulated Keely Gubbels for qualifying for nationals at the state FBLA convention; 21) shared the average ACT results for the junior class; 22) noted Leah Kuhl has resigned her position as a speech coach and that Robin Wagner will be replacing her beginning next school year; 23) Paige Kumm will the new head volleyball coach, with Ashley Koehler as first assistant and Candice Gansebom as second assistant; 24) signing of diplomas; and 25) gave an update on Nebraska bill LB140 regarding limiting cell phone use in public schools.
Superintendent Bremer reported on: 1) reviewed board policies; 2) the Americanism committee; 3) meeting with Paige Kumm and the use of the football concession stand area in the north building for before and after care and kindergarten readiness; 4) discussed coop scenarios and opportunities with Wausa and Plainview; 5) provided an update on the school food service program; 6) gym floor refinish; 7) natural gas choice program; and 8) board goals.
Board / Committee Reports: 1) Mr. Krause presented on the annual Americanism meeting to the board, noting all requirements are in order and provided examples of student assignments to meet and exceed criteria; 2) Krohn commented on the recent NASB budget and finance board workshop in Norfolk, noting it was very beneficial; 3) the board discussed at length the recent feasibility study and committee meeting with Wausa school and how to best proceed; 4) cooperative opportunities with Plainview Public School were discussed with possibilities being explored for high school basketball, bowling, unified bowling and girls wrestling.
Action Items: It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Rice, to allow the use of the football concession stand area in the north building for before and after care and kindergarten readiness through Little Tigers Daycare and Learning Center.
