Regular Meeting

The Osmond Board of Education met at 8:00 pm, Monday, April 8, 2024, in the multi-purpose room at Osmond Community Schools, located at 202 W. Prairie St., Osmond, NE.
It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Koehler, that this meeting was preceded by publicized notice in the April 3, 2024 issue of the Osmond Republican and is hereby declared to be duly convened in open session. A current copy of the open meetings act was posted in the room. All members having voted in favor of the motion, the same was declared passed and adopted, and the following proceedings were had and done at said meeting in open session.

The district purpose statement was read.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Board member roll call was taken, with member Krohn being excused.
Celebration of Excellence: Mrs. Tunink, FBLA sponsor and FBLA officers including Anabelle Vinson, Erica Heiman and Callie Hoffman reported to the board a summary of past and future chapter events for the 23/24 school year.
Patron Input: President Moes recognized Regina Lorenz as a guest in attendance.
The March 11, 2024 Regular Meeting and March 19, 2024 Special Meeting minutes were approved as presented.
Revised board policy 3030 and reviewed board policies 3039 through 3044 and 3046 & 3047 were approved as presented.
It was moved by Reikofski, seconded by Rice to approve the consent agenda and financial reports as presented.

Athletic Director Guenther reported on: 1) Girls high school basketball games and tournament schedules for the 2024/2025 season.
Principal Polt reported on: 1) State FFA convention and student and team placements; 2) the ESU art show awards and placements; 3) showed a “Backroads Tour” video for NCN created by the mass media team; 4) presented the NSAA rankings in student participation, offering congratulations to the students for their high levels of involvement; 5) reported that senior honor breakfast will be held on April 24th; 6) Sophomores pre-ACT test on April 25th; 7) prom on April 13th; 8) district music on April 19th, with no school for students that day; 9) the 23/24 awards convocation on April 22nd; 10) kindergarten round-up on April 11th; 11) conference track meet in Ponca on April 27th, with the junior high conference meet in Hartington on April 20th; 12) conference golf in Randolph on April 29th; 13) spring music concerts on April 29th; 14) senior’s last day of school on April 30th, with graduation practice on May 3rd and graduation ceremony on May 4th.
Superintendent Bremer reported on; 1) board policies; 2) the 2024 Nebraska Choice Gas Program; 3) a co-op update and the co-op survey results and notes; 4) building and office potential remodel update; 5) teacher contract renewals; 6) personnel updates; 7) provided strategic plans and district goals update; and 8) a Security Bank student account program update for the 24/25 school year.
Board Comments: 1) President Moes presented a resignation letter from Mrs. Leah Kuhl, thanking her for her dedication and service; 2) presented a thank-you note from the Osmond Alumni basketball committee; 3) Moes and Koehler offered a facility update; 4) Gansebom presented the latest on the daycare committee meeting; 5) the board discussed the recent community patron survey, with Mr. Polt also offering ideas for boys high school basketball, possibly with some JV games and skills work sessions; 6) the board reviewed and commented on the girls high school basketball schedule thus far for the 2024-2025 season.
Action Items: It was moved by Rice, seconded by Koehler, to have high school girls basketball as an individual team as the Osmond Tigers for the 2024/2025 school year.

It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Reikofski, to have high school boys basketball as an individual team as the Osmond Tigers for the 2024/2025 school year.

The minutes of the meeting were read.
Closed Session: It was moved by Reikofski, seconded by Koehler, to go into closed session at 10:15 pm to discuss the completion of the current Superintendent contract and extension.

It was moved by Rice, seconded by Gansebom, to come out of closed session at 10:47 pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:47 pm.
Notice is hereby given that the next regular meeting of the Osmond Board of Education will be on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 8:00 pm at the school. An agenda is kept continually current and is available for public inspection in the Superintendent’s office during regular office hours.
