MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION #42R
REGULAR MEETING
1/13/2025
The Osmond Board of Education met at 7:01 pm, Monday, January 13, 2025, in the multi-purpose room at Osmond Community Schools, located at 202 W. Prairie St., Osmond, NE.
It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Rice, that it is hereby determined that this meeting was preceded by publicized notice in the January 8, 2025 issue of the Osmond Republican, according to policy 2008 and is hereby declared to be duly convened in open session. All members having voted in favor of the motion, the same was declared, passed and adopted and the following proceedings were had and done at said meeting in open session. A copy of the open meetings act was posted in the room.

Board member roll call was taken, with all members being present.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Board Appointment: President Moes reappointed Michelle Reikofski to fill a board vacancy which was created due to failure to elect sufficient new board members. Reikofski read the Oath of Office. The Board Code of Ethics was read by board members.
Election of Officers: It was moved by Rice, seconded by Koehler, to cease nominations and cast a unanimous ballot to re-elect Mark Moes as President; re-elect Larry Krohn as Vice-President; and re-elect Tyler Gansebom as Secretary / Treasurer.

President Moes appointed Margaret Ryan as board recording secretary.
Celebration of Excellence: The 2024-2025 NebraskARTS Award Winners were recognized, including Osmond Community Schools for student talents and creativity in fine arts.
Patron Input: President Moes recognized Regina Lorenz from the Osmond Republican as a guest in attendance.
It was moved by Rice, seconded by Reikofski, to approve the consent agenda, reviewed board policies 4034, 4037 through 4042, financial reports and January claims as presented.

Principal Polt reported on: 1) Report cards for the 2nd quarter and 1st semester that were sent home on Jan. 10th; 2) No school for students on Monday, Jan. 20th for teacher in-service / ESU 8 Winter Workshop in Norfolk; 3) Conference honor band at WSC on Jan. 18th; 4) Conference wrestling on Jan. 23rd at Winside; 5) Conference basketball tournament on Feb. 1st; 6) Pre-ACT test on March 12th for Sophomores; 7) ACT test on March 25th for the Junior Class; 8) K-6 principal interviews on Jan. 24th; 9) upcoming interviews to fill Mr. McKenna’s position; 10) review of elementary curriculum; 11) proposed FFA signage; and 12) noted that a senior working on credit recovery is nearing completion of requirements for a diploma.
Superintendent Bremer reported on: 1) reviewed board polices; 2) coop update; 3) feasibility study; 4) main office remodel completion; 5) summer of 2025 remodel of three rooms; 6) the upcoming K-6 Principal interviews; 7) early childhood education, including before and after care; 8) Rule 10 Compliance Visit; 9) 2025 NRCSA spring conference; 10) Sparq meetings program; 11) read a retirement letter from Mr. Larry McKenna; 12) noted upcoming workshops; 13) reviewed the annual report to patrons and teacher and staff survey results; and 14) noted board goals and updates.
Board Chairman / Committee Reports: 1) President Moes and the board thanked Mr. Larry McKenna for his years of service and dedication to OCS; 2) Gansebom noted that a preliminary contract for the city sign will be reviewed; and 3) President Moes appointed board committees for 2025.
Action Items: It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Rice, to designate The Osmond Republican as the official news agency; KSB Legal Firm as school attorney; AMGL as school auditor, Superintendent Steven Bremer as the State and Federal Program Director; and Security Bank as the school depository.
