MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION #42R
REGULAR MEETING
2/10/2025
The Osmond Board of Education met at 7:02 pm, Monday, February 10, 2025, in the multi-purpose room at Osmond Community Schools, located at 202 W. Prairie St., Osmond, NE.
It was moved by Gansebom, seconded by Rice, that it is hereby determined that this meeting was preceded by publicized notice in the February 5, 2025 issue of the Osmond Republican, according to policy 2008 and is hereby declared to be duly convened in open session. All members having voted in favor of the motion, the same was declared, passed and adopted and the following proceedings were had and done at said meeting in open session. A copy of the open meetings act was posted in the room.

Board member roll call was taken, with all members being present.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
A motion was made by Gansebom, seconded by Rice, to approve the Agenda as presented.

Celebration of Excellence: Superintendent Bremer presented to the board on recent student achievements including: 1) Landon Oltjenbruns making FFA Choir at State Convention; 2) Junior High Conference Honors Band at WSC for 16 students; 3) the 100th wrestling win by Jaxon Vinson.
Patron Input: President Moes recognized Alan Steinkraus as a guest in attendance, also recognizing Regina Lorenz with the Osmond Republican as a guest in attendance.
It was moved by Rice, seconded by Koehler, to approve the consent agenda, reviewed board policies 4043-4046, 4048, 4050, 4052, amended board policy 4047, financial reports and January claims as presented.

Principal Polt reported on: 1) A sophomore student’s attendance to the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) State Leadership Seminar May 30th through June 1 in Hastings; 2) the curriculum committee reviewing K-6 ELA; 3) 2025-2026 class registrations beginning at the end of March; 4) Pre Act for Sophomores scheduled for March 12th; 5) Act for Juniors scheduled for March 25th; 6) spring break dates scheduled for March 7 & 14; 7) District wrestling scheduled for Feb 14 & 15 at Central Velley High School in Greeley; 8) girls basketball sub districts beginning on Feb. 17th; 9) ESU 8 junior and senior high quiz bowl competitions scheduled for Feb. 25 & 26; 10) conference speech scheduled for March 10th in Homer, with district speech scheduled for March 17 in Wausa; 11) community speech night scheduled for March 6; 12) noted speech team received runner-up at the their last meet; 13) Jim Winch Awards being presented to Joe Ortmeier and Greg Conn on Thursday Feb. 13 at the girls basketball game in Osmond vs. Wausa; 14) FFA sign update; 15) possible new 6-8 grades ELA curriculum; 16) FBLA week; 17) FFA week; and 18) noted Paige Parsons, the new K-6 principal beginning in 25/26, plans to be at the March board meeting.
Superintendent Bremer reported on: 1) reviewed board policies; 2) coop and feasibility study updates; 3) upcoming summer remodeling and bids; 4) NASB Legislative Issues Conference and Legislation updates; 5) early childhood education; 6) retirements, new hires and staff reassignments; 7) Sparq meetings vs. Google docs; 8) WSC Education Fair; 9) upcoming workshops; and 10) board goal reminders.
Board Chairman / Committee Reports: 1) Gansebom updated the board on the contract for the community sign with the City; 2) President Moes noted the recent sharing committee meeting, with the board discussing at length the current and potential coop plans with Wausa Public School; 3) President Moes asked Superintendent Bremer to expand on the scheduled summer remodeling of three areas; and 4) Koehler shared potential logos and lettering for when the gym floor gets refinished.
Action Items: It was moved by Koehler, seconded by Rice, to accept the bid from Billerbeck Construction to remodel three areas of the school, at a price not to exceed $60,000.00

It was moved by Reikofski, seconded by Rice, to approve a two-year contract with Paige Parsons to serve as K-6 principal.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:51 pm.
