Carson Bolz Leads Osmond FFA Dairy Evaluators
On Wednesday, September 27th the Osmond FFA Chapter trekked through the dense fog to Hartington to participate in the District 4 FFA Dairy Evaluation Contest. Over 250 students from 15 different schools met at the Cedar County Fairgrounds to test their knowledge of dairy cattle selection and herd management. Participants evaluated five classes of dairy cattle based on their physical characteristics, answered questions on two classes, analyzed and answered questions using herd records, and completed a dairy knowledge test.
The Osmond FFA Senior Team of Carson Bolz, Matthew Alderson, Hunter Buchanan, and James Doyle earned a red ribbon. Leading the team and all Osmond participants was Carson Bolz. Individually Carson was 16th in the senior division and earned a blue ribbon. Also earning an individual ribbon on the senior team was Matthew Alderson. Matthew finished in 48th place and earned a red ribbon. There were 101 individuals competing in the senior division.
The Osmond FFA Junior Team of Alexa Aschoff, Caleb Vinson, Addi vonRentzell, and Ava Severson also earned a red ribbon. This group was led by Alexa Aschoff who earned a blue ribbon coming in at 25th in the junior division. Also earning a ribbon was Caleb Vinson, who earned a red ribbon finishing in 34th. Addi vonRentzell missed earning a ribbon by 1 point and finished in 52nd. Other participants in the junior division from Osmond were Ashlyn Spangler and Ava Reikofski. There were 105 participants in the junior division.
The Osmond FFA Junior High Team of Ady Poellet, Korrine Moes, Nickolas Kumm, and Dawson Gansebom finished in 6th place. Ady Poellet jumped to the top of this group, finishing in 16th place just one point shy of a blue ribbon. Korrine Moes wasn’t far behind finishing in 20th place and also earning a red ribbon. Nick and Dawson finished in 36th and 37th places respectively. Additional participants from Osmond in the junior high division were Easton Steinkraus and Aiden Stech. There were 55 participants in the junior high division.
According to Freshmen Ashlyn Spangler the heifer class was the easiest class earning a perfect score on the class placement as well as getting three out of the five questions related to the class correct. Ashlyn earned the highest individual class score of the day from Osmond.
