Osmond FFA Competes at District Livestock Judging
The District FFA Livestock Judging Contest was held on January 24th, 2019 at Northeast Community College’s Ag Complex. There were a total of 482 contestants representing three area districts competing that day. District 4 was represented by 166 FFA members from 15 area schools. Osmond FFA took 6 students to compete in the Junior Division and 7 students in the Senior Division.
Students in all divisions were asked to judge Market Lambs, Breeding Gilts, Market Hogs, Cull/Keep Gilts, Cull/Keep Heifers, Breeding Heifers, Market Steers, and Breeding Ewes. They also completed a 50 question test. Livestock Judgers in the junior division gave reasons on one class, while senior division judgers gave reasons on three classes.
At the end of the day, six students from Osmond had earned individual honors. In the Junior Division, Zachary Huwaldt and Connor Gutz both earned red ribbons. In the Senior Division, Landon Stelling received a blue ribbon. Madeline Huwaldt, Zach Alderson, and Nick Reikofski received red ribbons. The Junior Team of Zach Huwaldt, Connor Gutz, Mason Gansebom, Ryan Schmit, Bodie True, and Blake Bahr earned a red ribbon; and the Senior Team of Landon Stelling, Madeline Huwaldt, Zach Alderson, Nick Reikofski, Josh Gansebom, Logan Stelling, and Nick Timmerman received a blue ribbon.
