FFA Members Attend Field Day
Ten Osmond FFA Members Attend Field Day
Farmer’s Pride, along with their partner Winfield United, joined forces to bring back an
educational event for FFA students across the area to attend a hands-on, live demonstration of
current plant science research and practical application technology. Together they presented
five 20-minute sessions to FFA Chapters from the area on Cooperatives, Spray Drones and
Technology in Agriculture, Genetics and Smart Corn, Fungicides and Seed Traits, and Crop
Nutrients and Fertilizer Analysis on Thursday, August 24th, 2023 at their brand new Answer Plot
located one mile north of Benjamin Ave on Old Hadar Road near Norfolk. It should be noted that
this plot is one of two regional plots that Winfield United uses for agricultural research. This
specific site is designed for research for the entire western corn belt of the United States.
Students learned first-hand from industry experts as well as local agronomists of how the impact
of this research translates to real yield advantages in the field.
Ava Reikofski, sophomore FFA member and Osmond FFA Chapter Vice-President, said that her
favorite station of the day was the Genetics and Smart Corn station where they were shown
what corn that is infested with ear worms looks like and how genetic engineering can inhibit that
kind of infestation in the corn.
Other members attending the event included freshmen Ava Severson, Alexa Aschoff, Addi
vonRentzell, Ashlyn Spangler, and Caleb Vinson; juniors Cody Gansebom, Hudson Napier, and
Carson Bolz; and senior Hunter Buchanan.
