Playing a high note: Chelsea Wiese enjoying life at WSC
It wasn't that long ago when Chelsea Wiese was drum majorette for the Osmond Marching Band. Now, Chelsea is a senior at Wayne State College still participating in the activity she loves.
Chelsea's experience has shown her that band in college doesn't differ much from band in high school. The only major difference is that she has more choices and freedom.
"In college, band isn't that different than high school, except you have the choice to not show up," Wiese said. "You have the same competitions and atmosphere. The only difference is, there's a lot more choices."
She has the option to choose what band she wants to be in and highly recommends band students to participate in college.
"High school band has the full band and whatever ensembles you want, but in college there's two different bands. You can be part of two or three jazz bands. If you like band in high school then I recommend doing it in college," Wiese said.
Chelsea has had a great experience participating in band in college and has become very close with her fellow band members and band instructor.
"The best part about band is all the friends you gain, especially when you came from a band of forty members to a band of 110 members," Wiese said.
"You get to know so many more people and get very close with them. They are like a family to you and will help you with problems. The band instructor even lets you call him 'Dad'."
Overall, Chelsea is thoroughly enjoying her experience participating in band in college, and would not discourage anyone from participating as well.
