JH Tigers downed by Ewing/Clearwater-Orchard
EWING—The Osmond Tigers junior high girls basketball team had a rough experience against Ewing/Clearwater-Orchard (E/C-O) on Friday, January 19.
The more athletic E/C-O team defeated Osmond 33-13 in the “A” game; however, the Tigers did win the “B” game 2-0.
While the Tigers had a fairly decent first quarter, they had a difficult time scoring overall, and their defense couldn’t stop E-C/O’s #44 (no name provided) who scored 20 points.
The Tigers were down just 9-6 after the first quarter. They then went scoreless in the second quarter and were down 15-6 headed into the third.
They did play a little better offensively in the second half, but so did E/C-O. The Tigers were outscored 18-7 in the half.
Hayle Krienert (8th, F) scored seven of the Tigers 13 points. Grace Gansebom (7th, G) scored four points, while Elisa Herrara (8th, G) added two more.
Krienert made a solid adjustment towards the end of the game, using an angle to score a lay-up on the baseline.
Macy Aschoff (7th, F), Lexi Beacom (8th, F), and Jozie Kumm (8th F) all played hard in the post. They were all aggressive going to the hoop.
Kiera Moes (7th, G) was aggressive offensively, but couldn’t buy a hoop. Riley Wagner (7th, G/F) played good defensively on the block.
The “B” game was played at half-time of the “A” game. Wagner scored the team’s only two points.
Kumm (8th., F) played well in the game. She was extremely aggressive and out-hustled her opponent. She had the hustle play of the game where she dove for a loose ball near half-court and secured the ball for her team.
Lilly Gansebom (7th, G.) did a great job securing the ball and going up strong. She got to the line for four free-throws.
She’s got potential and shows improvement each time she comes out on the court.
Samantha DeLaCruz (8th., G) also played well. She is playing under control. Her fundamental skills have improved dramatically.
