In an unforgettable educational experience, fourth-grade students embarked on an enchanting journey to the Ashfall Fossil Beds in Royal, Nebraska, on Friday, October 6th. The Ashfall Fossil Beds are rare fossil sites that have been uncovered and well preserved. The trip offered an opportunity for young minds to get a glimpse into prehistoric life, leaving them awe-inspired.
Led by their 5th-grade history teacher; Mrs. Kumm, the students embarked on a journey back in time, immersing themselves in the rich historical and geological wonders preserved within Ashfall Fossil beds. Their faces lit up with excitement and wonder, Mrs. Kumm stated, “The 4th-grade class has been learning about the First People of Nebraska. They wanted to connect their learning by traveling to Ashfall Fossil Beds.” Mr. Bremer took this opportunity to get to know the students and said, “He thought the place was unique and learned many things that day.”
The field trip left an indelible mark on the students’ minds, igniting a newfound passion for the wonders of Earth’s past. Emerson Wagner said, “She loved to look at the touch screen iPad that allowed them to focus in on certain fossils.” Bristol Stelling added, “She loved the rhino barn where they got to touch ash. If you held the ash up to the sun, it would sparkle.” The impact of this field trip will be felt for years to come. For more information on the Ashfall Fossil Beds, visit https://ashfall.unl.edu/.
