Tigers upend Cardinals
Osmond vs Randolph Game Summary
There had been 18 straight meetings between the Osmond and Randolph boys basketball teams since 2002 that all ended with the Tigers on the losing side of the scoreboard. That streak came to an abrupt halt on Friday night in Randolph, with the Osmond Tigers overwhelming the Cardinals on their home court by a score of 63-41. Coach Schulze commented, “That streak had been hanging over our heads since I arrived in Osmond and was a goal of mine to help end it. I’m happy for this group of guys; they were the ones that finally ended the streak and got the monkey off our back. I can’t think of a game I’ve coached that I had more fun being a part of from start to finish. Our players competed for 4 quarters and stuck to the game plan, our bench was engaged and vocal all night, and our fans provided a huge lift for us!”
It was a back and forth game during the first half; however the Tigers were able to grab the momentum heading into halftime thanks to a Keaton Timmerman basket that left his finger tips just as the buzzer sounded. The 3rd quarter was one the Cardinals would like to forget, scoring their only 2 points with twenty seconds to go in the period, due to an aggressive full court defensive attack by the Tigers. The 4th quarter saw Osmond make game-winning plays and put a stamp on their season opening victory.
The Tigers were led by senior Alex Kumm, who had a game-high 25 points to go along with his 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Keaton Timmerman finished the first game of his sophomore season with a double-double, off of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Tristan Maertins played a balanced game with 6 points and 4 rebounds, while giving Osmond an emotional lift with several hustle plays, diving on the floor for loose basketballs. The Tigers demonstrated their unselfishness Friday night, finishing the game with 17 assists on 22 made field goals.
