Wellness Corner
Our School
Osmond Community School strives to provide supports that meet the needs of all students. One area of need is a student’s mental and emotional health. Research shows that students who receive social-emotional and mental health support achieve better academically. Additionally, school climate, classroom behavior, on-task learning, and students’ well-being all improve as well.
At the Osmond School, we use a proactive, strength-based approach to mental/emotional wellness. Wellness, in general, encompasses all aspects of our lives; physical, social, intellectual, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and vocational. This approach not only provides support for students who may be struggling with specific issues, but it also educates students about the importance of mental health and assists them in building personal skills that will help them function in life.
Building School Safety
Increased access to mental health services and support in schools is vital to improving our students' and schools' physical and psychological safety, as well as academic performance and problem-solving skills. School mental health supports encompassing social-emotional learning, mental wellness, resilience, and positive connections between students and adults are essential to creating a school culture in which students feel safe and empowered to report safety concerns, proven to be among the most effective school safety strategies. Additionally, in the aftermath of a crisis, school-employed mental health professionals provide support that facilitates a return to normalcy, is sustainable, and can help identify and work with students with more intense or ongoing needs.
