Osmond Community School named as a National W!se Blue Star School
Osmond High School has earned a spot on the W!se 2022-23 Blue Star Schools national ranking released by Working in Support of Education (w!se), a NYC-based educational not-for-profit focused on promoting student financial literacy nationwide and sponsored by Voya Financial®.
To earn the coveted Blue Star School award, a school must have achieved an 80% passing rate on the Financial Literacy Certification Test with at least half the students on a grade level OR a minimum of 10% of school enrollment having taken the Certification Test during the academic year 2022-23.
The Test is administered as part of W!se’s award-winning Financial Literacy Certification program. Schools enrolled in the program teach a course or unit on personal finance using instructional resources from W!se, including a curriculum outline aligned to national and state standards and then administer the Test. Since its introduction, the program has become integral to personal finance instruction in thousands of classrooms across the United States and is offered in 49 states.
The students who earned this award are this year’s seniors class — Matthew Alderson, Xander Brown, Hunter Buchanan, James Doyle, Tessa, Garner, Baylen Guenther, Erica Heiman, Callie Hoffman, Anna Kahny, Caydence Krienert, Julianna Kumm, Caleb Miller, Owen Severson, Dominic True, Anabelle Vinson
Mrs Kaylen Tunink’s Personal Finance class has been participating in the w!se program since 2021. By incorporating this award-winning program, students have been empowered to take control of their future and ensure that they can achieve financial well-being. Finding ways to address the lack of financial literacy among our young people is of the utmost importance. Helping students understand risks and how to make good financial decisions regarding their finances are critical life skills. We also hope that these skills have a positive long-term effect by assisting young people in making healthy financial choices.
